Introduction to eFARS Breeze Presentations

 

This version of the eFARS introduction presentation is specifically designed for all new users of eFARS including on and off-campus faculty with teaching, research and/or extension appointments.

If you are an experienced eFARS user, then you should view the presentation "What's New in eFARS for 2008."

Login

Click on the orange "Log in" tab. On the login screen, enter your Virginia Tech PID and password. Your PID is the characters preceding "@vt.edu" in your e-mail address.

eFARS Primary Sections

After you login to the eFARS, you will see tabs at the top of the page. These are the links to the main sections of the system.

As a new eFARS user, the first time you log in to eFARS, you will be directed to the "My Programs" tab. Before you can proceed to the other tabs in eFARS you must first designate your Planned Programs and the Knowledge Areas in "My Programs." After you have completed this information you will be able to navigate to any of the other sections.

Users of eFARS from previous years will already have their Planned Programs and Knowledge Areas selected from last year. You can go to the "My Programs" tab to make changes.

The "Report Outline" section is where you will enter your personal annual report information.

The "My Collaborators" feature helps you build your personal list of collaborators-those people you work with frequently. As you enter data in the annual report, you can easily retrieve the information about your collaborators from your list.

Next is the "My Report" tab. Clicking on the "My Report" tab builds your annual faculty report and allows you to download the report into a Microsoft Word, or PDF document. This section also provides you with a printable Curriculum Vita and USDA and NSF grant forms.

Report Outline and Data Entry

The outline is expanded by clicking on an item beside the plus icon (). The outline is compressed by clicking on an item beside the minus icon ().
