eFARS Update!

November 2008

Announcements

The Extension Planning and Reporting Section is Open!

The Extension Planning section (section H.2. in the outline) opened on November 1. Faculty can begin completing the three planning sections - Buy-in, Personal Action Plan (PAP) and Unit Plan of Work for 2009. Changes in the planning section include a revised list of Outcomes for Buy-in based on refinements made by the Planned Program teams. The PAP structure has been improved but no changes were made to the questions. And lastly, there are Unit Plan of Work examples to help in the completion of this new planning component.

CRIS Reports No Longer Added Automatically to eFARS

Due to growing incompatibilities between the CRIS database and eFARS, data from Faculty member's CRIS reports will no longer be automatically uploaded into eFARS reports. Instead, faculty members should save pertinent data from their CRIS reports in a Word file which they can paste into eFARS at their convenience.

2008 Annual Report Due Date

All annual reports are due by midnight on Friday, January 16, 2009.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I learn about the new changes to the eFARS system?

A presentation designed for new eFARS users called "An Introduction to eFARS for First-Time Users" is available on the eFARS Help Desk home page.

I have used eFARS in the past. What changes do I need to be aware of for 2008?

For experienced eFARS users, review changes made to eFARS for 2008, by viewing "What's New in eFARS in 2008."

I was entering some data in eFARs but got called away to a meeting. When I started to work on it again, I had been logged out and lost the data to boot! What's up with that?

Sorry, but eFARS will automatically log you out after 4 hours have elapsed without receiving a "Save" or "Save and Return", so save often!

How can I get help if I get stuck?

There is a FAQ and an Instructions section on the eFARS Help Desk web site . You can also email or call (540-231-9409) Joe Hunnings who mans the eFARS Help Desk.
